Today Roseville Police detectives arrested a 33-year-old man suspected of sex acts with an underage girl he met over social media. Roseville Police investigated allegations that this summer, the suspect struck up a friendship with an underage girl from a nearby county over the social media platform Snapchat, telling her he was 18 years old. Eventually he persuaded her to meet with him in person, and they had sexual relations. The situation came to light recently and was reported to Roseville Police.
Today, detectives served a search warrant at the suspect’s house, where they also found evidence of drug sales. Christopher Dean Martin, age 33 of Roseville, was arrested on suspicion of lewd and lascivious acts with a child under the age of 16 and other related charges, as well as possessing marijuana and methamphetamine for sale. He’s currently being held in the Placer County Jail on $110,000 bail.
During the investigation, detectives found out that the suspect may have tried to contact other young teenage girls in the greater Sacramento region, using the social media platforms Snapchat, Facebook and Instagram. If anyone believes their child has been the victim of a crime involving Martin, please contact Detective Quartarolo at firstname.lastname@example.org .
This is also an opportunity to remind parents, kids and teens about online safety. It’s safest to keep social media accounts private, and only accept invitations to follow you from people you know and trust in “real life.” Remember that some people assume fantasy personas online, and may be lying about their age and other information they provide about themselves.
